Sonja Zacharias, Artist

1Watercolour captured Sonja's imagination from when she began to paint as a child. Her parents, John and Glenda Beaver, were and are (Glenda has passed away) dedicated artists in their own right who always encouraged her and nurtured her talent. Sonja took a year of Fine Arts at Red Deer College as well as earning a Bachelor degree in Drama at Augustana University College in Camrose. Over the years, Sonja expresses her creativity in many ways, including costuming, illustrating a children's book, murals, and teaching children and adults watercolour techniques. Watercolour has always been a constant.

She has taken part in exhibits in Alberta and B.C. She enjoyed a Beaver family art exhibit that was shown in Alberta and Minnesota. She participated in the Highway 53 group show in 2007, the Rosebud Visual Artists Alumni Show in 2008 and was chosen to feature at the Lacombe Art Show and Sale in spring of 2009 and at the Rosebud Gallery with her mother, Glenda Beaver, in the summer of 2009.

Sonja lives with her creative husband, Gene (a Master Plasterer), and their two creative children in Clive, Alberta. Her artwork can be found in collections in Canada, the U.S.A., Europe and Australia. Sonja's work is represented at several galleries in east-central Alberta, including Gallery on Main in Lacombe, Art Beat Gallery in St. Albert and Gallery with a View in Donalda..
